The “Gaan Kokila” of India, the only singer from India that holds the record of receiving most awards in music, the Padma Bhushan, the Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner, the Padma Vibhushan, the Bharat Ratna. The late Lata Mangeshkar, who still is alive in millions of hearts living in the world, is the most sacred icon, and the lovely human being to write about.

I was going through a lot of videos of Lataji giving interviews again that I had watched in the past. That got me thinking, how beautiful soul she had and how practical she was in life, at the same time she was a fighter, fighter that fights for the things she backed such as the matter of royalties, and awards for singers.

I was also thinking about the gems we have in the music in her voice. I can say that most divine songs, like O paalanhare, Luka chupi, and many more which really has the divine feeling are Lata’s songs.

I would like to present some of the best songs in Marathi, Hindi languages and of multiple genres in this series of Lata Mangeshkar.

Starting with the songs which she had composed and sung herself (by the name “Anandghan”) in this post, in marathi language.

Lata Mangeshkar as Music Director and Singer

#1 Shur Amhi Sardar Amhala | शूर आम्ही सरदार आम्हाला काय कुणाची भीती (Hridaynath Mangeshkar)

This song is from Maratha tituka melvava and about the mission of establishment of Swarajya. Praising the soldiers themselves through this song, for all the soldiers who fight for the country and sacrificing their lives without any fear.

#2 Nilya Abhali Katarveli (निळ्या आभाळी कातरवेळी)

This depicts a feeling of a women, whose husband is off to a mission and leaving her behind, alone. Very interesting music she has given to the song, and expresses feeling of the person going through this.

#3 Bai Bai Manmoracha | बाई बाई मन मोराचा

This song was very famous and hit back then, it was kind of being used in today’s music by some music directors to recreate it. But this was composed and sung by Lataji, a very nice creation indeed.

#4 Airaneechya Deva Tula

#5 Malachya Malyamadhi

#6 Rajachya Rang Mahalin

#7 Nako Devraya – Hridaynath Mangeshkar

#8 Vaat Pahuni Jeev Shinala

How many of these you knew were composed by Lataji?
